APRIL-CALENDAR [2015]

This fun, almost finished challenge, is brought to you by.. http://www.a-to-zchallenge.com/

and today is brought to you by the Letter

X

Letter “X” was always going to be a struggle for me to with “family” in mind…

I guess I could class myself as being xenophilia being that love of foreigners, but then I could tell you about growing up in the inner city town of Richmond in Victoria in the late 60’s and early 70’s and how back then and aye even still today there were a lot of foreigners, Richmond back then was famous for it’s Greek population and sometimes it was kind of like “spot the Aussie” but I loved it, we learnt new words, we learnt about new foods, I remember swapping lunches with other girls who had thickly sliced weird bread with slices of spicy salami and strange looking chunks of cheese.. I’d happily swap my Vegemite and cheese sandwiches for those delights. And Easter with Greek friends was always fun too..then a few Chinese started appearing and again, new words and new tastes, back then on our birthday we were encouraged to bring party foods to share, maybe that’s where my love of all things travel” started, because suddenly we were hearing about places like Vietnam and Greece and seeing different flags and hearing different languages. Of course the Parentals were less than friendly, and were even down right racist, children are so much more forgiving. To us kids they were our class friends with the strange names like Houng and Dora, lots of Maria’s and Yanni and Giovanni and Carlos, didn’t matter where they came from we were just all friends.

OK, I’ll confess I’ve never heard of that word before I googled words starting with “X” but the rest of that story is true.

So today what I am about to do is switch it up a little.. I KNOW EXTRA does not start with X-tra but that;s what I am doing today.. illegal for this challenge maybe but hey I’ve been good following the rest of the rules I’ve visited more than half the people on the sign up list. I’ve liked, I’ve responded and I’ve made some lovely new bloggy friends. But I can NOT do this challenge without mentioning this person, although not “blood” related as family, she is the family that I gave myself and SHE is the best present I’ve ever given myself. I could have included her at “B” for “Bestest Best friend”, because that is her official title, and then I could have added her at “D” for Deanne which is her name, but that day I did Dad and I know Deanne loved Dad as much as me, so she wouldn’t mind me not adding her there.. I could have added her at “F” as Friend but she is so much more than that!! I could have added her at “S” for Sister, but she’s sooo much more than that, so then I had to figure out “Where can I add Deanne?

So I decided to make up a place just for Deanne at X- for X-tra Bestest Best Friend!!

Deanne Lyndell Whykes (Nee Warne) is my bestest best friend.. we have been friends since the day we first met and Deanne is the first real friend I made when I moved to Preston. I was 20 yrs old, newly married and moved to a new area, I transferred my job, so I ended up in the Delicatessen department at the local supermarket. Deanne was one of the “after school” casuals and we ended up working the Friday night late shift together. She was 16 yrs old and not yet driving, so she was relying on lifts or catching the train home, it was late, we used to be open till 9.00 pm and then cleanup, and then it turned out we both had early morning set ups which meant 7.00 am starts, so I suggested that Deanne stay in my spare room, there started a life long friendship, and I am so grateful to my “Bestie

Deanne and Steve’s wedding Jan 1993

Something between us just clicked and we found we had many similarities, we were both the youngest of five children (Later I found out I was the youngest of 6!! and Deanne was there for moral support and encouragement!) We both had older sisters that we didn’t get on with and we both questioned  “Why couldn’t I have YOU as my sister?” and so we made a pact that we would be the sister we each wished we had. and it’s been that way ever since. During long shifts at work when we were tired and getting ready to go a bit crazy, the deli Manager would send us to the kitchen  (she thought it was punishment- but we loved it, we chatted and prepared the chickens in peace) to prepare the chickens for cooking in the rotisserie Deanne and I used to make up little songs and dance the chickens along the bench and thread them onto the long poles ready for cooking, it was a terrible job, the chickens were straight from the fridge so cold and stiff, our hand would suffer terrible, but we had our special “Chicken song” and that made it all worthwhile.

Deanne fit into my family so well, she was always right beside me at parties working in the kitchen or doing some silly little dance.

Deanne doing serving duties at the Bloke’s “Hawaii 5-0” party

Deanne, like just about everyone else groans when they receive a party invite from me.. the first question is “What is she making us dress as this time?” but you can beat your last dollar that Deanne will be the first to arrive, the best dressed and stay the longest to help clean up. We have had Hawaiian theme for the Bloke’s 50th, for my 40th we had “Arabian nights” complete with a belly dancer, we have had Burlesque, and Masquerade, we’ve had a colour party where we had to dress as a smartie colour. Lots of themes!!

Amber’s 21st, “Masquerade Party” March 2013 In the Kitchen again!!

We left the kitchen long enough to do some dancing!!

Over the years we  have had many happy times together.. for Steve (Deanne’s Bloke) 40th Birthday we had to go dressed as something beginning with “S”

I came as “Santa’s Mrs” and Deanne was a “School Girl”

Deanne was proudly my Chief Bridesmaid for my Medieval wedding to the Bloke.. you can read more about that here: https://kimlhine.wordpress.com/2015/04/09/h-is-for-lots-of-pics-in-this-post/

Feb 29th 2004, Lady Kim and Lady Hawk.

Steve, Deanne, Me and Rob at Jasmin’s 21st Birthday “Burlesque theme” July 2011

When I had the two girls circa 1993 and decided to get them Baptised, there was never any other choice as to who would be Godmother.. Deanne and she’s taken her role very seriously. That was before Steve but when it came time to baptize Jarrah, Steve and Deanne became his God Parents too.

Deanne is the Godmother to the eldest Children.

Deanne and I are lucky that our Blokes get on as well as we do it makes it easy to hang out together. Our Blokes are of a similar mind “Happy wife Happy Life” and so now that the children are older, we are able to spend a bit more time together, so far we;ve been camping to Wye River in Victoria and then the following January we went camping in Alexandra in Victoria and then this Easter we spent Easter together at St. Leonards and Steve and Deanne have just gotten their first camper trailer so LOTS more family camping trips will be planned. Deanne and I spent a lot of time chatting or crocheting or just sitting side by side reading. There is never an awkward silence.

Lord Robert with Lord Steve,

We have been lucky enough to have our children close in ages, Deanne’s Eldest and my first boy Jarrah are five months difference, and our youngest boys are two months difference. So we can go away camping as families and enjoy each others families.

Most of the Whykes family camping in Alexandria Victoria Australia day weekend 2014.

Jasmin and “Da God Mumma” Deanne

Over the years we have got many layers of friendship built, lots of happy memories and some sad ones, we’ve shared births, deaths, marriages, divorce (mine) and remarriage, highs and lows and been there for each other, I moved away from Deanne in 2002 to move up to Sunbury, about 40 minutes away, but we keep in touch through phone calls and visits and camping trips and facebook.

Camping Easter 2015.. Jasmin and her “God family”

Feb 2008… I think celebrating Steve’s birthday, BBQ at Deanne’s house.

If I could give everyone a gift I’d wish you could all have a Bestie like my X-tra Best Friend Deanne.. but I am a jealous friend and I don’t share well, so I’m keeping this one.. sorry!!

Weekend Round up…

Yehaw!! I sound like a Cowgirl.

My last post here was Thursday… I was sure I did one Friday.. Oh yes I did.. this is a day behind so it says the 23rd July… but it was actually my 24th!

Anyways..

Since then I have done NO ART! and very little house work. MY Bloke came home Friday night and said “Stop Cleaning!”

Friday afternoon Amber and Sweetpea came home and so the house looked “lived in” again.

On Saturday, Amber had free football tickets so she took Sweetpea and Star Son and her cousins and went to the football they left at about 11.00am so The Bloke and I had an almost “kid free” day, we had Squishy and so we took him to visit The Bloke’s Mum Tanny. Squishy is really getting the hang of this walking thing he did his best toddling along in the “retirement home” and all the oldies loved him, there was a chorus of “Oooh’s and Awww’s” as we toddled past! Funny he’s walking faster now that some of the inmates  err residents!  He fell asleep in the car on the way home so we dropped him off at his house his Dad was home from work by then.

The rest of the afternoon and evening was “child free” so we did a leisurely shop and booked ourselves a table at “The Station Bistro” its run by the parents of one of the Boys in Star Son’s football team so we try to give them support whenever we can… plus they make the best Parmas! We talked about going to the movies, so I googled whats on at THREE different cinemas and NONE of them had anything we would want to see… the only thing I would vaguely watch was “Jurassic Park” part 7 trillion and 34… but it was only screening through the day.. so we opted for a DVD, yes people we are THAT boring, we get a “kid free” afternoon and evening and we stay home do grocery shopping and watch a DVD.. I’m yawning as I type! He chose “The Hobbit” and I let him because A) he never watched TV or DVD and B) there was even CRAP in the new releases! C) I am always “trying” to be a wife of integrity so I let him chose. I played on my ipad!

Sunday of course is “Football day” and I tried very hard to pretend I like “Winter” and took this photo.. it fooled people on Facebook!

Needless to say it was so cold.. then I read a FB update from my Bestie who’s son plays in a different region and they were being SNOWED on!! Stuff that I HATE WINTER… today the radio DJ guy tells me “Cheer up Peeps we are 2/3’s through winter“.. light at the end of a very long dark tunnel.. We lost the game which was almost certainly expected, there is one tea each year and we can NOT beat them no matter what.. we played them and now we will be playing them again probably twice in the finals…*sigh* it’s kinda like that old saying “Always the bridesmaid never the bride” on the upside, he’s been playing football for this team for four years and three of those have been in the Grand Final, one of which they won! That’s more than A LOT of grown men footballers can say! The thing that makes me get all warm and fuzzy with the fat that I HATE WINTER and I spend a lot of time huddled in the cold, stinging rain, or frosty cold ice-covered mornings.. is that HE loves it and HE’s good at this sport.. so I shut up and stomp my feet a little harder to encourage the blood to keep circulating!!

After Football it was a mad dash home to get changed, warm up and grab some food before running out the door to Jasmin’s for her first Tupperware party.. as much as I hate to and she most certainly would hate it- I have to admit she’s a “mini me” in the fact that any excuse for a “Party” and “WE” are there! It was fun and Amber booked a Party.. see I told ya “Any excuse…” and that helps Jasmin’s sales too..now I have to find some friends to invite.

Last Night I got some of my pile of pen friend mail done.. so that’s coming down in size thank Goodness.. I am terrible lately at letting it pile up… I’ve run out of International stamps so tomorrow Squishy and I are going to the PO.

Today is Monday and I am starting DETOX.. i know I know I keep threatening it.. but I got on the scales this morning and they yelled “Ouch, get OFF!” I am officially 78 kilos (171.961 pounds) my “GOAL Weight” is 67 Kilos.. (147.71) So I have some work to do!! Today I begin Green Smoothies and detoxing from Coffee, sugar, Dairy, Carbs. Detox is for three weeks and then I will think about re-introducing Soy Linseed bread back.

I am hoping to lose at least 3 kilos before we go on our trip.. so I can get into the photos without being too ashamed!

So I will be posting the Smoothies recipes and any Daniel Plan recipes that I use!!

Ok, house work is calling me, Sweetpea and Amber are off at Tweddle until Friday, I have a “Child free” day so I will clean the house and then get started on some art.

I almost forgot to tell you about that… I am doing a challenge with Brian Miller he’s started a FB group.. we are doing “50 paintings before 50″ if you’ve been following my blog for a while you’ll know I love me a good challenge.. so the Bloke worked it out, I need to do AT least one painting a week to get 50 before I turn 50 in October 2017… what a blubber mouth I am today.. I’ve told you my weight and MY AGE!! in one post!!  two things a woman supposedly never reveals… but then again no one has ever accused me of being a woman!!

See you next time….

I’m back!

Sorry I have been absent, It’s been a week, I started off last week well, I was hopeful about Art Bible study group, I was hopeful about lots of things I was “planning” to get done..

Monday -started off well, it’s a baby free day for me so that’s always good, and so I got the house work done, the washing caught up and felt like “yay” even planned to go and start de-cluttering the art studio, I had plans and started doing my “morning pages” for the new Book Club I am working in….

Tuesday-  I had Squishy as usual and I was starting Bible study group, my first night, the Pastor’s wife Arranged to collect me and take me along. Star Son had football training so The Bloke was going to be home early, so I had dinner planned and after having a very clingy boy all day I couldn’t really be bothered, but two things forced me to go to Bible study group.. 1- I didn’t have the Pastor’s number to call and cancel and 2- I really feel like God wants me to have “community” and not stay at home so much. So I shook it off and went, I am so glad I did go the women were so lovely and made me feel so welcome and were happy to stop and explain what was happening and who was who and what was coming up. I felt instantly at ease and like I fitted in. During the prayer session, I asked the Lord to please help me fit into this group if it was his will that I stay here. And also for guidance about where to go next in terms of what I am doing with my art. Little did I know what I was asking for..got the start of a headache, thought I was tired ignored it.

Wednesday- Had a great nights sleep maybe a little too good, woke up with the headache and the tightness in my shoulders which is never a good sign. when I was online my cousin contacted me and asked have I been checking my emails? d’uh of course I have.. she said “well check again because I think YOU won” and I’m like “huh? won what?” She had this plan and it was long and convoluted and a complete fabrication.. about how she had entered my email address into a competition to win art classes for free. So immediately I checked emails, nothing, then I get an instant message on Facebook from a good friend I met through art, I call her my “Soul sister” we have so many things in common, She said to me “Kim I have a confession” and I immediately thought “oh no what’s happened?” and I instead said “that sounds serious” and she said “well yes it is…” I thought she was going to tell me that her trip to Australia was cancelled or something, instead she tells me “You didn’t win the competition” I sighed a sigh of relief  I said “Oh well it’s no big deal, I didn’t get any emails, it was nice of Lee to try”  and she wrote back “Yes your cousin is the most amazing person, but you didn’t win the competition I brought you those classes!” So long story shorter.. Carrol and Lee had been plotting and Carrol had gone to Tam’s “Sales page” and brought these lasses for me as a gift… I told her off because that’s  A LOT of money and too much to spend on someone else… she promised me they were on sale, which I knew because I had been looking at them and had picked out two of the cheapest classes to try, but still “on sale” was too expensive for me to consider. there was some kind of mix up and so after a lot of checking and emailing back and forth. So it turns out that God had answered that question of “Where to go next with my art?” because suddenly I have 104 art lessons to do!! Thankfully they are “life time” and so I am not on any kind of schedule. Carrol is the most amazing lady!!

I had both babies while Amber had her driving lesson, and then when she got home my head was thumping so hard I went for a nap while Squishy napped. Amber and Scarlett went out for the afternoon. Bloke cooked dinner and I had another early night.

Thursday– Panadol is not working, it’s not even touching this headache, my shoulders are bunching up and I can hardly move.. maybe I am getting the flu… Amber came home yesterday and said “the Instructor has decided that she is ready for her driving test, so today she had to go do the “Hazards” test, in the olden days we called that the written part, and it was done on the same day.. these days, it’s done on a computer  and she a year to do the actual driving test after she passes the hazards, so I had to look after two babies while she did her test. So I went downtown with her, thinking the fresh air, change of scenery would get rid of my headache, plus it was a lovely sunny day. It didn’t work! So I went to see my Physio, and make an appointment, and I almost cried when they tell me the first available appointment was Friday next week! The Bloke was home early again to take Star son to football training, so he took Squishy with him for a drive so I had those little few minutes of quiet. I was in bed by 7.30 pm.

Friday- Squishy stayed home with Brett, so I had another free day and since I woke up with the headache – again! I got Star Son off to school and then went back to bed.I spent the day watching my TV shows on my ipad and reading my book.. and it worked! because by the time The Bloke got home from work, I was up cooking dinner and moving almost normally. I stayed in my PJ’s all day Friday and then The Bloke took Star Son to youth group and  when it was time to collect him, I decided to go for a drive, but since it was dark and I wasn’t getting out of the car I stayed in my PJ’s… BIG MISTAKE!!

A car pulled into the car parking space next to us and I am mentally thinking “out of all the car park spots you have to stop here” I looked up to see a smiling lady waving at me.. and it was Paula, the lady whose house we had been at for Bible study group.. I am so embarrassed I wished I could just melt away. She said “Oh I thought to myself that looks like Kim!” and I was thinking, “wow how do you do that? meet me once and recognize me sitting in a blacked car!” I explained that I was hiding because I was in my PJ’s and I didn’t even have enough energy for blogging or art, and she said “Oh are you an artist? Oh good, you must come to church on Sunday and join our art group!” I’ll text you she says, and we exchanged mobile numbers. An hour later I had three texts and an email and I was thinking,… “This is the sign right?” Thank you Lord!

Saturday– We had made plans to meet some friends at the camping and 4 wheel drive show on at the Melbourne Showgrounds, so we had to leave early, I’m not sure what was going on, because I woke up and didn’t have the headache or the tightness in my shoulders. I had a great day with my Bestie and her husband Steve and son Jordan, although Will and Jordan were off doing their own thing most of the day. We had lunch together and finally departed about 2.00 pm, I love spending time with my bestie, we don’t have to talk or we can talk up a storm and it’s just comfortable and we are so lucky our blokes get on so well as well. I than God all the time for giving me Deanne you can read more about my bestie here: https://kimlhine.wordpress.com/?s=X+is+for  once back home I had a quick cat nap and woke up feeling good, yay maybe the headache is gone..

Sunday- Football day! Star Son had club photos so they had to be there at 9.00 am for the photos and then the game started at 11.50 am so that gave me time to sit in the car and catch up with my journal writing. It was cold but not too bad. Rupertswood won convincingly 85 to 7. One of the parents didn’t show up so The Bloke ended up doing the Goal umpire job, but that’s ok he likes helping. I like to sit and watch and be quiet, I am on a “gag” order from Star Son, he says he hates it when those Mums are yelling out and telling the kids what to do and the coaches are yelling out what to do it’s too confusing, and then he adds, “I am so glad YOU don’t do that Mum!” so that’s my Gag order… I only cheer for him when he gets a goal or something. I am sure the other parents think I am less interested or don’t care or whatever they think, but my Son knows whats what and that’s all I care about. The previous week he got stretchered off the ground, after being knocked down by a bigger kid, as I ran out to him on the field the first thing I hear him say is “I can’t feel my legs” my heart dropped to my muddy boots! I didn’t say a word, I think I was holding my breath! It turned out he was winded, and he hurt his ankle.. but he was all good, he had a quiet afternoon and recovered quickly. Then he told me off because I didn’t take photos or video of him being stretchered off the ground, now he has nothing to put on Facebook.. Laughing!! I can’t win!

After Football I was supposed to go to the Church Art class, but I had a headache after sitting in the cold, so I skipped Art Class..I hope Paula will invite me back to the next one!

So that brings us up today, 1st June, First day of winter, and boy, has it ever hit with a vengeance. Its a bitingly cold wind!

Oh a positive note, I did spend some time organizing places for our upcoming trip, in September till Nov across the Nullabor Plains to Western Australia. So far I have 17 places marked for stops whether they be over night or for a few days, these are the places that at some stage we will be laying our heads down!

Yesterday afternoon we went to see my Mother-in-law Tanny in her “Retirement home” read more about Tanny here: https://kimlhine.wordpress.com/?s=F+is+for

Tanny has just noticed (Dementia will do that for ya!) that she has a nose, and we ALL have noses and she is laughing when she says “noses are so ugly.. why do they have to be so big?” Rob and I were laughing because his sister Leigh has asked us not 15 minutes earlier  “Has Mum commented on your huge nose yet?” we said NO… ha ha! Tanny looks at me and says “Oh Kim, YOUR nose is HUGE!” and I laughed and said “Not as Big as Rob’s” she looked at her son and says “Where did YOU get such a huge nose?” he said Probably from you Mum” and she said “Well yes I just saw that I have a nose and It’s big but it’s OK, I am getting used to it” we all laughed and then Rob says “Good thing that Mum, you’ve only had that nose for 80 odd years!” now I share this little story with you, not to be mean, I am certainly not laughing at her, but I just love that she is happy, that she can laugh at us, that we can all laugh with tears rolling down our faces, at something as harmless as a “NOSE” something we all have and take very little notice of.

A- Z Blogging challenge is finished but….

Here are a few neat things I’ve discovered…

  • I miss it already!!
  • I visited 214 of the 1,516 blogs listed (I thought I was doing OK but I think I could have done better)
  • in the 30 days of April, I got myself 33 new blog followers.. fellow A-Z’ers I guess and thank you very much!!
  • I stuck to my predetermined theme and posts (pretty much)

IMG_1509

  • I also discovered I suck at writing short blog posts. I think this is because during the day my “job” is as Grandma to two small people 17 and 16 months, and I don’t use up enough words so then I come to blog and they spill out to make up the quota for the day….
  • I guess this means I’ll never be doing a “challenge” where I have to count my words (or at least nothing under say 3,000 words anyways!
  • At the start I doubted myself, about going the distance.. (what’s new I do it ALL the time) but then I found myself loving this new routine and really enjoying introducing my family and super close friends to everyone.

I’ve really enjoyed following along with other people’s challenge topics, I learnt all the names for God from one blogger and from another she ate her way through the alphabet, one had a music theme so I learnt some new music. There were many varied and different themes and I’ve learnt something new at each blog, so it’s been a learning curve for me as well. I’ve loved sharing my family with you all and now I have to start thinking about 2016’s theme!!
