Day 3 Of Carol’s Monthly Challenge “Colours of Carol” I’m calling it……

arty stuff dec 12 Jan13 001_resize

So today the colours were Gold Black and White, I didn’t have any gold, so I subsitituted this yellow colour, I’m not going to get all upset about not having exactly the right colours.
Todays prompt was “Life is….” I messed up a line it turned into a spiral which morphed into a running line and suddenly I have a page full of twists and turns which made me think that “Life is full of twists and turns“, because even though you might “think” you’re headed in a direction, all it takes is a small mistep and suddenly you’re somewhere else…… 2012 was a lot like that for me. So here is today’s offering….

2013- A little Goddess in All with Carol.

I am still at Carol’s site, although I am not as active as I’d like, as I mentioned earlier the first 4 months of 2012 were bad and I was very depressed and just in a huge black hole, I started going to councilling and my beautiful “Goddess of councilling” told me to get back to my art, of course my mind was so bogged down in “woe is me” I didn’t get near anything remotely arty, instead spent all my time reading books and crying ALOT!
The second half of 2012 we went on a huge road trip for 56 days you can read all about that and see all our pics at http://wrakhine.aussieblogs.com.au/ and while I was away I was starting to look at things with the tiny voice in my head saying “Pity you didnt bring your pastels to draw this” luckily I took heaps of pics, I was also really inspired by the Indigenous Art in Northern Territory, so finally after 56 days we came home and we three walked into our house and went “yuck” although we had gone away the bad stuff had NOT, so we set about making some big changes in our lives, so far we’ve spring cleaned the front garden and removed a whole bunch of wild plants, and general junk, decluttered some of the house, had new bamboo floorboards laid and this week we are painitng the house, so all the energy in the house is being thrown out and refreshed, Then of course it was New Years Eve and so to take the plan one step further I shaved off all my hair as well!! Out with the old and sad and in with the new fresh and HAPPY new Year!
Usually I make a bunch of resolutions and most times I keep the, this year I made only one broad ranging one “2013 My Year of Fun” and after last year no one in my house is arguing with me, so how to put it into action, first I made a list of all that I like to do and how did I feel when I am doing them?
ART! I get lost in my art, I can work on a piece or a scrap book page or a project and not take in anything around me I really get lost and then suddenly its like “OMG I forgot to eat lunch and now it’s almost dinner time” So I needed to bring that back in.
Learning new things– I was once called an “eternal Student” because I’m always wanting to learn something new and so I set about looking for a study subject, I’ve got a few very different ideas so which one to follow? Easy… the solution came to me by accident I get lost following a link here and click there and viola~ I found Sheri Ann Ponzi’s webpage http://www.paintingherselfintobeing.com and I read through it and then closed the page down, and then went and opened it back up and joined on the spot. I will spend 6 months with a bunch of wonderful Goddesses and I will see where that leads me, hopefully the Goddesses will help me find the direction the next half of my life needs to go in, whether it be art or something else. The course is not ALL about art, we also learn some meditation and do some journalling and we paint with acrylics which is new and little scarey to me. I have vowed not to be scared just jump in and see where the Goddess leads me. I am open to anything she helps me uncover about myself whether it be good or bad, (I hope it’s not TOO BAD!) Already I’ve found a link with one goddess that has shown up and is meaningful to me, see I’m also learning about different goddesses and their meanings for us, for example Isolde is the one i’ve connected to and she is here to help me open my throat chakra and “SPEAK” which is why I hear Isolde’s voice as my “Goddess Councillors” voice, she is telling me always the same thing “speak UP” and the other thing both of these Goddess are always telling me is “you ARE worthy” someone will hit me on the head with a brick soon if I dont start getting THAT message..

Other fun things? Laugh more than I cry, I am going to spend more time with my “real life” Goddesses my Sunbury Sisterhood of Hatters group, we have recently picked up 5 new girls and they are lovely and we are all on alert for “Fun things” t do this year as a group!
So, Movies, music, games or all sorts, oh yes!! My cousin and I have just signed up for a Sewing Class, we both have sewing machines and overlockers which we never use, so this way in the 9 weeks of classes we will learn to make clothing to fit us and that flatter us and use our machines at the same time. This year I am going to be terribly selfish and do things for ME….. my husband approves…

Over at carol’s group A little goddess in All, she had in December a month long challenge where she gave us three colours to use and a prompt and we had to make a page… I didn’t do it because my house is in disarray with furniture everywhere, but I asked carol if I might do it this month to start the New Year off as I mean to go on and of course she said Yes!! So here are days 1 and 2 and I’ll tell you the colours and the prompts…..

Day 1-Colours to use are Pink, Red, Ivory, the prompt is “Art is….”

Day 2- Colours- Orange, Turquoise, Brown, Prompt “I am….”
arty stuff dec 12 Jan13 016_resize

So this is my Monthly challenge and I’ll be posting these as I do them, and whenever I do any arty for for “Painting the Goddess within” I’ll post about that too… Wow, this had been a long posting, but I wanted to catch you all up and appologise for the long time between posts.

September 2012- OH my!!

I have not been very good with my arty stuff, so much has been happening in my life and some of it not good, but I’m ready to come abck and to push start myself I’ve started another September challenge with Carol from A little Goddess within, it’s called “these my days” 30 days of art challenge.

http://alittlegoddessinall.ning.com/forum/topics/september-s-30-days-of-these-my-days-art-journaling?xg_source=activity  here’s the link come and visit, tell Carol I sent you.

So day one was Making new endings and I have to confess something for me (maybe the state of mind I’m in) this seemed to come easily and quickly, Did I mention there is a 30 minutes allowance for this challenge, you only art journal this project for 30 minutes, surely even I can find 30 minutes!

Day 2- How do you feel? (also helpful in my mind space!)

Day 3- One word to describe your day.

let me show you what I came up with for day 1- Making new endings.

Day 1- Making new Endings

Day 2- How do you feel? my response was Hopeful.

Day 2- How do you feel?

So now I’m off to work on Day 3- technically we’re in day 4 in Australia but I’m working a day behind, it’s not so bad!

September’s Faces- day 7 and 8- dismal failures….

So wrongly I thought that as the month went on I “might” improve…… wrong!

Or is it I am being too “cocky” with myself and choosing harder subjects? I don’t know I do know that I had a splitting headache both days ( am I going to use that as an excuse for this crappy stuff? NO! just putting it out there!)

Day 7- Headband

I chose her because I liked the angles of her face and the jazzy headband she wore, I’ve got the angles all wrong, I also noticed another thing as well. When I do my art on my own and in a quiet space I seem to tap into it much better Day 7 and Day 8 I was surrounded both days by bickering B-O-Y-S!

( am I using that as an excuse for this crappy stuff NO again I’m not just also putting THAT out there LOL)

Time to make up that sign that says “Shhhhh works of art in progress”

So here is Day 7- Headband

Headband

The best bit about her is that I took the photo with lots of other light so that the flash didnt bleach out the colours of the piece ( THANKYOU CAROL for that tip!!)

I do like the way I highlighted the lines by her mouth and her nose I’m finding the noses are getting easier, so maybe the eyes will get there as well. I also like the shadows and highlights for her shoulder bones.

When I look back on day 1 or even before day 1 to Tilly Devine I can see improvement. I think at the end of the month I’ll redo Tilly Devine and see how she looks then!

Day 8- Babies (Critters!)

Deceiving little critters that THEY are… they look so cute and innocent and sweet and E-A-S-Y!!! WRRRRROOOOOONNNGGG!!!!

I actually gave up on them because they were doing my head in, I’d seemingly “fix” something I saw as an error and then I’d see something else to fix and I spent two HOURS!!! on the little brats! So I gave up and threw down the book in disgust, I might be grown up but I still throw really good little girl tantrums!!!

To be fair my family have been a great support to me and even say “Mum maybe you need to do something with that left eye” helpful! or then you get my husband who pulls no punches and says “that baby’s head is all wrong, do it again!” ( he didn’t really say that)  but I did ask  him “does this shape look wrong?” and he nodded so I rubbed it out and re-did it and it’s STILL WRONG!!!

Arghhhhhhhhhh the joys of Art!!!

This is my month to improve so I’m hoping these are steps along the way…. here are the “Critters”

Babies (Critters)

Please remember people who might read this I never claimed to be a portrait painter, this is a challenge for myself LOL

Day four of “September’s faces”

I’ve always loved Nigella the chef, not sure why is it her accent or her face shape? I don’t know maybe it’s because she has a nice full figure and I was drawn to that?! Whatever I decided to draw her. I made the mistake of thinking her cheek bones and dimples would be “easy” wrong…… and don’t even get me started on her hair LOL anyways here’s my attempt at

  Day 4 “Nigella”

Nigella

So seeing at how she turned out “okish” I decided to have a try at something else. remember I said I’d try all kinds of faces, young, old, coloured, un coloured, different mediums and so on and so forth, so I found this lovely lady in an “Emirates” advertising  piece and I liked the way her “uniform hat” draped around her face and of course I LOVE her dimple, I wish I had a dimple!!! so here is

Day 4- Airhostess

Airhostess

I know I’ve done her eyes wrong, I seem to be able to do one part of any face up to what I call a “good or great” standard and then mess up something else.. this is after all the month in which to fix that dilemma, for the life of me I could not work out how to fix that eye and then this morning when I took this picture I realised what I’ve done wrong.. so mental note to oneself… take a photo before you FINISH the piece and go away and then come back and look at it to help pick up the errors!! thank you self!! On these two portraits I used coloured pencils and experimented with the shading and how dark to make the shadows without using the black pencil or the grey lead pencil. I’m really surprising myself with what I am doing.

My 23 yr old son asked “Why aren’t you doing a University degree is Arts?” I said “because I’m home looking after you lot and having fun with my arty stuff,”
So he got online and started doing some research for me on a university degree in Arts.. I’ll do some research today and see what happens, apparently now you can do them all online, which would be better for me, I get agrophobic sometimes about leaving the house on my own! OMG I admitted that on my blog LOL

Anyways that was Sunday’s offerings I’ll be back later with today’s!

September’s challenge

Each month Carol over at “A litte Goddess in all” gives us a monthly challenge and we can chose wether we do it or not. I usually try and do them because they’re great fun and often something I’ve not yet tried, so this month I decided to give myself a challenge.

I was commenting to Carol about how her faces were getting so good and she mentioned that she does “a face a day” to give herself practise and I said “Oh yes I should do that too” and so I started doing it in a few different books and then decided that I would make a MONTH of it and get a book especially for it… as my eldest son just said “hey it’s a FACEBOOK” which I hadn’t even thought of d’uh me. Everyone in this house is on facebook LOL

So I was telling Carol on the REAL facebook about how well my chellenge was going and she said to be sure and share the pics on my profile at “A little goddess in all” and I said Of course I would because I appreciate her comments and decided that I would also add it to my blog so that I can keep track of it all.

So pre September I started with a TV character from a new TV show called Underbelly Razor it’s set in the 1930’s in Australia and I loved their costumes so please meet “Tilly Devine”

Tilly Devine

Kate Lee

So that was two of the three main characters, but I still wasn’t happy with how they looked so I decided to start drawing other faces and chellenge myself to get better and use colour and add different features, old, young, men, women, children, all nationalities and keep them all together in a book but until I got a chance to buy the book I started doing “faces” in other books here is one from my “The Heart of Art” Journal.

Day one- 1st September- I call this one “Bloke”

Bloke- facial hair and hat He was really a challenge, he had a HAT and FACIAL hair to contend with, I like his nose, they are slowly improving but I knew there was better to come.

 Day 2- Swimsuit

Day 2- Swimsuit

She-  I liked for her facial angles which is my weak area and also the 3/4 body which I haven’t tried before.

She had her hair tied back in a pony tail I’m not ready to challenge hair just yet!!!

Day 3- Over the Shoulder.
She was the first one in the “September book of Faces”

Day 3- Over the Shoulder

With her I didn’t do her hair but I did add a little bit of colour although the flash from the camera has almost washed the colour out of theis shot. I was really pleased with how she turned out.

Day 3- Wildcat

Day 3- Wildcat!

She is going to be performing at the “Gangster Ball” in September and I loved the weirdness of the angle of this photo and where the light source was coming from which makes her look like she only has a half a nose!!! I wanted to share her red hair and was using a grey leaded pencil so I added some colour and then decided that her green eye shadow should be played up a bit and suddenly she’s mostly colour and looked even better than just the grey lead. Overall i’m not too unhappy with her but there’s still lots of room for inprovement!

Keep watching and Ill keep up loading more pics as I do them

Evoking the Seed- Week 11- Spiritual Ecstacy.

Ecstasy:  The rapturous delight, an overpowering emotion or exaltation; a state of sudden, intense feeling, the frenzy of poetic inspiration, mental transport or rapture from the contemplation of divine things.

Ok so this week Carol asked us to:  Do a page on Spiritual Ecstasy  – come to this journaling exercise in a sacred way – choose colors that are sacred to you, objects that are sacred to you, words that are sacred to you.

I was thinking it would be easy but it wasn’t really that easy.

Here is the page I came up with, I’m not sure if I’m totally happy with it yet, but the good thing is it’s my book so if I change my mind I can go and do it again!

Spiritual Ecstasy

In my head it seemed so much better. I planned to do the traditional colours so for Aboriginal Australia its earthy colours and black and red and yellow. It kind of did not work so well.

To explain a little bit I was aiming for the “nature” side of me, so the moon’s glow and the Sun’s warmth and the tree to shade and feed us and give us it’s timbers and the roots which are buried deep in the soil. It made sense at the time.. now it’s kind of mess.. LOL.

So for this project I used

  • Acrylic paints
  • White gesso to prepare the pages
  • Stencils something different
  • letter stencil, I need to learn some more heading techniques!
  • White paint pen
  • Sharpies

As usual you can visit Carol’s website for more details on this week’s challenge or any of the other wonderful things she’s got going on, come and join our postcard swap!

Evoking the Seed- Week 10- Intentions

So for this week we’re doing :

Ten- Express your Intentions to become your wild and succulent self

Carol asked us to:  Create a page that is your Manifesto of your wildness.  A Manifesto for the purpose of this exercise is a “statement declaring intentions”.  There is no right or wrong in this, there is just a reason to motivate and inspire yourself to reach out to become part of your natural dance of life.

Here is how I played

Double page layout.

I dedided that for this week I’d explore that inner wild woman who is starting to voice her own opinions.

You were once wild don't let them tame you Isadora Duncan.

I used fur to represent the fact that I am going back to nature and being wild, hence the unruly hair!

Journalling

I think this stems from the fact that I was away for the long weekend camping, with a bush fire, and wild kangaroos and kookaburra and cockatoos and getting back to nature, no watch just sun rise and sunset and listening to the sounds of nature.
For this week’s project I used:
  • Acrylic paints
  • gesso
  • water
  • fur
  • hand spun wool
  • and a cut out picture
  • old book page

Visit Carol’s site for more information: http://alittlegoddessinall.ning.com/

Evoking the Seed- Week 9- Gift

Week Nine – Gift

Carol asked us to think about:Choose one way you are a gift to the world.  What is something people have complimented you for all your life?  Sometimes gifts are negative, sometimes positive.  My smile was always spoken of.  It used to be I smiled to cover the pain.

I could relate to what Carol was saying because quite often still I smile when I really don’t want to, I hide behind it.

Smile

I actually struggled with this one because I don’t recall anyone saying much nice to me about myself, I can clearly recall all the hurtful things though.

I do remember that a “few” people have said I have a lovely smile and one friend said that the room lit up when I smiled. So I made this page.

For this project I used:

  • Coloured papers
  • magazine cutouts
  • glue
  • gesso
  • curling ribbon lettering stencil
  • wrapping paper

For more information about this course or any of Carol’s things please visit her site: http://alittlegoddessinall.ning.com/
