Here is my December total.. this was a test blog to see if I could copy and paste from my excel spreadsheet into my blog, apparently I can.

December reading totals were: 776 pages and yearly total was: 5,076 pages which is a terrible year for me but you see I was so busy with babies that I even neglected my reading!!

This is part of a very long term goal which started 1st January 2007To read a million pages” Most years I’ve been good with my totals not this year.. so the overall total amount of pages read since 2007 is… 175,926

I will now be making this part of my “Book Club” postings.

NaBloPoMo- Joy- AND announcing “Fantabulous Friday”

Fantabulous Fridays

Each day of the week I have been having a themed day. I have now decided that Fridays will be “Fantabulous”

Most people like Friday’s because it signifies the start of the weekend. So most people would think it’s “Fantaublous

So On Friday’s I’ll touch down on the week and what I have been doing that was “Fantabulous

Today for example was my Grandson’s first birthday.

So lots of presents and unwrapping, and fun and Birthday cake. My second daughter came over for the day with her daughter who turned one two weeks ago, So it was a fun, noisy exciting day. We had pizza and Chocolate cake for dinner.

Now silence has fallen on our home, time for “me time” let’s see what today’s NaBloPoMo Journal prompt is..

NaBloPoMo 2014- Day 27- Today I did…. a LOT!

NaBloPoMo_November (1)

I know, I know right, it’s not a big deal to you all, but to me it’s HUGE!

You see, I look after my Grandson full-time while his Mum works and I love him to bits, but my Art Studio is down stairs and so when I am with my Squishy I rarely go down there. In fact, today was the first time I’ve even walked into that room for over two weeks.

So my daughter was home most of the day she only worked 5.00 pm- 10.00 pm today, she didn’t leave home till almost 3;00 pm. We had made plans to go and do some running around this morning, picking up some things ad going to the bank, we got a salad for lunch and come home and then I had all this free time, I’d already done the laundry this morning and it was on the line drying, so I wandered down stairs.

At first I stood there and looked around because let’s face it, it’s been a while since I worked down there, and it’s become a bit of a dumping ground as we move children and grandchildren in and out of the family home. I’ve got myself a nice little path but I really need to de-clutter a LOT of stuff. Plus there’s so much to do ART Wise, where to start was the questions, it all gets a bit overwhelming. My Sister-in-law came for a cup of tea and said “Do you remember HOW to paint?” I reassured her I don’t think I’ll ever forget that…. and then if I do there’s You Tube.

My gaze fell upon a painting as yet unfinished when I started her I had such a clear vision and then I got her head and the outline of her wings (she was going to be a red-headed angel) done and then for whatever reason I stopped. So I chose to work on her today. Since I have done some classes on drawing faces since I started her, I could see her face shape was wrong, so I started off by adjusting that with some neutral colour paint, then I decided that I could do her eyes better too, so I painted over those also, and while I’m going, her mouth needed work.. I love her nose though that can stay! I have no idea what I am doing as yet with her body or if she will retain her wings, but I’ll see how we go she’ll tell me what she wants as I go along, they usually do..

What Else dd I do today?

Breakfast– Quinoa bake and Maple Syrup.

Snack- 1/2 banana (I shared with the Squishy boy!) and some dried cranberries (he loved those!) and some cashews.

Lunch– Greek Salad

Snack– Fruit and 10 nuts

Dinner– Home made chicken balls with salad and Satay dipping sauce, (All made from scratch and ALL Daniel Compliant)

Water is up to date, yay, another target reached.

Did I do anything else??

Oh yes! When I was shopping with my daughter and Squishy, I brought myself some more veggies for the newest garden bed, today I got Cucumbers and Zucchini! So now we have…

  • Tomatoes
  • basil
  • rosemary
  • corn
  • broccoli,
  • capsicum
  • Strawberry
  • Cucumber
  • Zucchini

I’d say we’re doing good, I am thinking the final garden bed I might do a selection of herbs.  The family is not interested in the Capsicum or Zucchini, so they are for me.. the Children don’t want the tomatoes so I might as well just have all of it.. at least it’s Daniel Compliant!

So How was your day? Did you do anything exciting?

NaBloPoMo 2014- Day 16- Gardening

NaBloPoMo_November (1)

Anyone who knows me will tell you, “Kim hates gardening” and yet strangely enough I love my roses and I like the garden to look nice, I just hate going out there doing it.. hence the shrubs and the trees. We removed some close to dead old Gum trees when we first moved here and I’ve always believed that if you remove a tree plant another, so we removed two almost dead gum trees from the front and planted 9 more, a mixture of Silver Birch (One for each Child) and Weeping Cherry for my Father-in-law when he passed away and a weeping mulberry well, just because it weeps.

But since starting “The Daniel Plan” I realized that it made sense to grow some veggies at home. So I went out and brought a punnet of nine Roma tomatoes and some parsley, I also today got the Marigolds, Basil and Rosemary because they are commonly used as “companion planting” to help keep the bugs away from the tomatoes without using sprays because remember I am a “lazy gardener”

According to this website… http://www.sgaonline.org.au/companion-planting/

First column these are good neighbors to plant with tomatoes second Column is what each plant does… and the third column is bad neighbors.

Tomato Asparagus, Basil, Celery, Borage, Broccoli, Brussel Sprouts, Cabbage, Carrot, Cauliflower, Chives, Dill, Gooseberry, Grape, Hyssop, Lovage, Marigold (French), Marjoram, Mint, Nasturtium, Onion, Parsley, Parsnip, Turnip Marigolds said to repel white fly and root knot nematode. Bad Neighbours roots release substances reducing growth Apricots, Beetroot,  Fennel, Kohl Rabi, Potato, Rosemary, Sweet Corn

So looks like I’ll be going shopping and buying a few more plants! Mint and cauliflower, Carrots and Broccoli, But I wonder if the neighbors would complain, because I am doing my Veggie garden in the front of my house away from my dogs. I have planted the Tomatoes, Basil and Parsley and Marigolds and now rosemary around my favorite rose-bush.. I would how that will re-act.

I have set myself a little challenge and I can hear YOU Terri Deiley out there groaning “Oh My GOSH NOT another one!!” I am inspired by Terri’s gardening and her love for it and so I have set myself this little challenge.. Half an hour each day to work on the garden, but doing small doses like that I can see what I’ve done but I’m not making myself sick of the garden.

Today we brought more horse poo.. I know I’m sorry too much information! but you need to know that because tomorrow I am starting the next section of the garden bed, I am ripping up the black weed matting which doesn’t work anyways and I am going to spread the horse poo and water it in for a few days, weeding and turn over the garden bed regularly until next weekend, and then I’ll go shopping for more companion plants. I was so tempted to buy a pumpkin today, but I just wonder.. “Do I love pumpkin that much?” I’d be better to get and grow the “Super greens” that everyone is talking about.. imagine how cool it would be to walk out the front of your house and pick your lunch salad!! Its my dream!

So if you are reading this please leave me a comment and let me know “what are you growing? or what can you suggest I give a try? talk to me and I’ll chat back!

My Star Son is obsessed with Unicorns, and rainbows and I like to encourage him in all things “mystical” so he asked me if I’d paint him a unicorn, my first thought was “ICAN’T” and I thought what example am I setting him if I jump in and say “I can’t!” so instead I said, “I’ve never painted one before but I’ll have a try” and kept my fingers crossed that I could do it justice. I did a wish for him on the blank canvas and then many layers, using Nikki Shannon’s http://www.energypainter.com/ process, and today I decided to finally get to the “actual” unicorn, so I asked the “unicorn” to help guide me and I must say I’m surprised with how well it turned out and quietly quite proud of it but when Will got home I didn’t say anything knowing he’d check the easel to see what I’d been up to… and then… he SCREAMED!! “OHMYGOD, OHMYGOD, OHMYGOD MUUUUUUM” so I asked him “Do you like it?” he was so excited, he said “NOOOOO I LOVE IT! OHMYGOD MUM you are amazing” and that my friends is why I do art, because my son thinks I am amazing!!

Journaling and stuff….

Most of the Art Classes I’m doing also involve some kind of journaling and I love it, I’m an avid journaler I do pages and pages every day. At least two pages of gratitude and then my daily ramblings and then prompts from “Painting Your Inner Goddess” prompts, well today’s one was a challenge and I posted in the Facebook page I felt like I wasn’t sure if “I wanted to open that can of worms” as I typed it I envisioned a can with worms escaping, and one of the other Goddesses said “I just want to paint a can of worms now” So these lovely Goddesses offered me loving supportive words and again I felt that I am in the right place at the right time, I even had an email from Limitless Megan who has a website here…http://www.yourinnergoddesscircle.com who offered to do a clearing for me so that opening “that can of worms” wouldn’t be as bad. I’m so touched by these lovely Goddesses who reach out and support even though they are all overseas and far far away, thank you Goddess for the power of Internet!

So I digress again… I did the journal prompt which was “what is one thing you have stayed silent about too long?” and I found it hard to get started I was “over thinking it” there’s not ONE thing there are many small things, but ONE major thing stood out and as I jounaled I started to see a picture in my head.
The other Goddesses a few of them, have been painting their “Dark Goddesses” and I felt that I would like to do a “Dark Goddess” of course when I got to the canvas she wasn’t a Dark Goddess just a very sad one. So here are a few of the steps so far, she’s still evolving, as I was cleaning up my paints to start coking dinner, she said “oi you forgot the can of wornms!” so I went back and added that!

I re-used a canvas I know we’re not supposed to do that but I didn’t want to wait until I had the right equiptment and loose the idea, I guess I could have sketched it down, didn’t even think of that d’uh!
Then covered it all dark and depressingly, then took a white chalk and drew the goddess in, again following Havi Brysk Mandell’s (her website is here… http://www.soulblissings.com ) method of drawing faces and there she appeared, it still amazes me that I CAN DO THIS!
Anyways look at the pics you’ll see what I mean…

Spring Green for this wall, this wall will hold the wall unit and a corner bookshelf.

We have a Spare bedroom and for many years I’ve been wanting an Art Studio that I could escape to and paint and craft and let my mind go free, and for a while I was doing just that and then a “kid” decided to move back home so I packed all my stuff away and it was agreed by all that I could use a corner of the living room… well I set up the wall Unit with bits and pieces and moved my scrap booking things there and never used it more than once, A- it didn’t feel right and B- I couldn’t leave things and go away I was always conscious of “the mess” so for the longest time I did NO ART and then I wondered why I felt sad and “a little bit lost” I learnt to crochet and for a while that was fun and worked but I missed my pastels and paints etc.

So when “the Kid” decided to move on and I again had a free room I decided this time I’m claiming it before anyone else decides to move back in…… and so I did! But now the energy felt all wrong and then the room flooded and we had all kinds of dramas there and so another 12 months had passed and I REALLY miss my arty spot, so my Darlingheart has decided that he will HELP me to fix it and to try and annoy him (I was in a snippity mood) I said like a 10 yr old “I want every wall in MY room a different colour, I want to paint and then stencil the concrete floor, I want wall units and bookshelves and I want different sections for different crafts…….. on and on I went and he said “OK lets do it!” Hmmmm, I even took the door off and removed it and still he said nothing except “It looks bigger…. so it’s been sitting empty and things have been sanded and things have been taken apart to be “renovated” and sitting around for another few months… and we got “omportant” stuff done like new bamboo flooring and painting the main part of the house, and all THAT furniture has been piled down in my ART ROOM,finally now I am happy to report, I have a wall painted… yes! just one so far but it’s a HUGE step!!

I also have two bookshelves painted awaiting placement and two drawers from the desk painted they will also be multi coloured, I’m going for the crazy patch work look, lots of bright zany HAPPINESS type colours.

Pearls around her neck.

So I did manage to finish “Goddess Yemaya” whom is the goddess of the sea. Here is a little blurb about her….
Goddess Yemaya’s domain is water, rivers, and what is often considered the birthplace of all of life on earth – the oceans and the seas. She is specifically associated with the upper part of the ocean, which contains the most life. Her first gift was a shell so that her people would always be able to hear her voice. Her name Mother Whose Children are the Fish, denotes that her children are countless and further relates her infinite and all encompassing life giving aspect.
Her symbols and associations include, the sea/ocean, rivers and all bodies of water, the six-pointed star, pearls, cowrie shells, mother of pearl, sea shells, silver, Mother Mary, mermaids, the full moon, the crescent moon, white flowers, the number 7, and the colors blue and white. Yemaya is typically depicted as a mermaid or as a beautiful woman emerging from the sea – often with pearls pouring from her palms. She is sometimes referenced as wearing seven skirts of blue and white
. Taken from http://www.pyramidcompany.com/CJT/index_Page8610.htm

So when last I was here I showed the undercoated top half of her body, and I kept going I’m so proud with how she ended up finally… I left her sitting around for almost a week until I decided that she needed more and so I asked her “what else can I add?” and here is the final result….

Then when she was done or so I thought….. I added more…..

In the end I am happy with how Yemaya’s turned out, I can’t wait to see who visits me next!

Yemaya 002_resizeOur holiday place in named this because I was reading the book “Eat, Pray, Love” and she said it meant “The Art of doing nothing” or something like that, and when we go to our holiday place that is what we do N-O-T-H-I-N-G! And that’s excatly why we go there t’s our relaxing, unwinding place and I quite often get inspired to do great art, but then one of my Italian penfriends tells me it really means “Beautiful doing nothing” and that works too!!

Whie I was down there last weekend I was thinking about a piece of art to do for the wall down there and it’s at the beach and we have piles of shells and special rocks and featger and sea glass and other collected “stuff”I was thinking I wonder how I can get to combine enough of that stuff onto a canvas and all of a sudden literally it hit me “Mermaid” I knew there was a Goddess of the Sea so I started researching, and she “Yemaya” was perfect, so today I got started on her too.. I did the background a few days ago, her colours are “sky blue, white and silver” perfect! silver is close to glitter my favourite! She’s often seen with white flowers (frangapani?!) and shells, all of which I have in abndance and she’s quite often seen wearing or holiding pearls… Oh boy did my mind start running!! Yemaya has been calling me for a while, but that doesnt mean I can get her out of my head onto canvas or paper….until today!!

She is very much a work in progress, so keep chekcing back on Yemaya’s progress.

September’s Faces- day 15 and 16

So I’ve decided that I should leave well enough alone, don’t try to add colour with water pastels or dry pastels stick to the coloured pencils…

Day 15-  Beehive

I Liked the way her hair was all piled up like that so I decided to give her a go.

Day 16- Phone call from Paradise

Phone call from Paradise

I found this Miss in the travel guide to Samoa where we will be going in June 2012. I can’t wait it’ll be so nice to go snorkeling in those warm waters.

I’m not terribly unhappy with her, I love her hand and her face isnt too bad her mouth is still not 100% right but I’m not sweating the small stuff!!
